They scream about feeling the depth of the pain on "Main Street" and they talk about how their party understands it while claiming that the other party doesn't. The not so secret truth? Almost none of them do!
How could these people up on Capitol Hill understand the pain of the ordinary people around the country, many of whom are living paycheck to paycheck struggling to make ends meet.
A good number of these Washington politicians are rich in their own right while all enjoy taxpayer paid pension plans, cadillac health care plans, government stipends and the promise of rich private sector jobs whenever it is that they leave office.
For many the reality of their jobs consists only of winning an election and then almost immediately sliding right back into campaign mode again, all while on the taxpayers dime.
As an example can anyone remember a day when President Obama wasn't focused on campaigning including the day of wide ranging festivities that he enjoyed yesterday in NYC?
Any pretense of them doing their jobs is in reality just an attempt to discredit the other party and get some face-time in front of the television cameras.
The cost of all of this political gamesmanship comes at the expense of anything productive being done to help the American people.
Some of these politicians get to Washington as wealthy men and women while others, men like Harry Reid and Charlie Rangel, somehow amass wealth after they arrive.
So now who are some of these men and women of wealth in Washington?
